If you and your family like to spend time outdoors, then the Land Park neighborhood is definitely the place for you. The name of the area is basically a shortening of its central recreation area: William Land Park (which was established with the $250,000 Mr. Land himself bequeathed to the city upon his death in 1911).
The park is enormous—more than 160 acres—with numerous jogging trails, picnic areas, ponds and so forth. It also contains the grounds for the Sacramento Zoo, Fairytale Town, Funderland, a 9-hole golf course, soccer and baseball fields and an outdoor amphitheater where Shakespeare in the Park is performed. Across the street (Freeport Blvd.) you will see the campus for Sacramento City College.
The general boundaries of Land Park are Broadway (or 2nd Ave. depending on who you ask) to the north, Sutterville Road to the south, Freeport Blvd. to the east and I-5 to the west.
No doubt inspired by the verdant park, Land Park area properties tend to have larger lots, with well-tended lawns, trees and other plantings.
